Airports, airports, airports. While the life of the DJ might be painted as one of CO2 cannons and jesus stances, the reality is one of the endlessly wearying patience test in airport lounges. However, you won’t find Nadja Lind gracing @DJsComplaining with tales of woe. Instead of letting the soul sapping wait chip away at the Lucidflow co-founder’s effervescent demeanor, all the negative vibes of queues and delays have obviously been poured into creating music instead.
All Night Long sees Goa, Beirut, Sydney and Kenya all touched upon - inspired by recent globetrotting treks - all tied together by the welcoming homecoming of Berlin. Three of the tracks go uptempo and two go down in a worldwide tour courtesy of Air Lind.
Starting at the top, Beirut Deep Night does things dark and dubby, a scattering of electronic windchimes adds a spine chilling ingredient to the mix. Lighter in tone, Kenya Night floats along until it hits a long drawn out breakdown that will shake the subs of any demanding speaker stack - pay attention closely and you’ll pick out the faintest sound of children at play amongst the ethnic percussive work. Then, getting straight up and funky, Berlin All Day Long could easily be twinned with New York, the jaunty chord work that the Big Apple was famed for sitting comfortably with the trademark dub tones of the German capital.
With the tempos dialled low, Sydney Sunset cuts a swinging and eccentric dub path, a cocktail of different influences shaken up and served on ice, with Goa Dawn proving to be an entirely more dystopian experience, drawing parallels to the spine chilling soundtracks of John Carpenter.
